Its been a busy year. We’ve been working with our existing clients on some exciting projects. From an interactive Rock & Roll, couter culture academic resource. Farm sites across the South West. China & Social history websites. Magento ecommerce site for Rebel Angel, community sites, a couple of charity projects. TOOLS FOR SELF RELIANCE CYMRU collects old and unwanted hand tools from all over Wales. They clean, repair and sharpen them, and send tool kits to grass roots community groups in several African countries.

They asked us to design and build them a website and make it easy for them to mange and sell online.
Below are some of the features that enable them to now manage their website and market the charity effectively.

Ivy House Farm in Beckington produces Jersey Milk products, selling across the South West and London.
They had no website when we met, now they are online, receiving enquiries.

What should you look for when getting a website built?

Choose a website designer with core graphic design / marketing skills & technical knowledge, so you end up with a “Unique” website that truly reflects your business.

If you want to edit your website, make sure you have a system that allows you to edit ALL content, sections / pages. Some developers use basic systems that mean they will charge you later to add sections. You will only be able to edit in defined areas that they have previously specified.

If you want your website to be dynamic, searchable and flexible – you should make sure your websites Content Management System is database driven (As opposed to static pages). Again this will save you costs in any future development.

Unless your website is “Dynamic / Database driven” you won’t be able to serve your website on different devices like the Iphone.

Make sure your website is scalable and future proof. So you can easily add extra features like ecommerce & mailing list systems that are completely integrated and not a series of bolt-ons / patches and fixes. This again will reduce future costs.

Ask your developer / designer if you will own ALL the code in your website and that it is hosted on your website. Otherwise, you can end up with systems / services hosted by other companies that can not easily be modified unless you pay.
